AI credits are used when Ranksphere generates or rewrites content for you. This guide explains which actions use credits, how many are included with your plan, and how to manage or purchase more.
What are AI Credits?
AI credits are used whenever you generate content or use AI Insights in Ranksphere.
For example, you can use AI credits to create a Google Post, draft a reply to a customer review, or generate a business description.
Each Ranksphere plan includes a monthly allowance of AI credits.
What's the difference between AI credits and scan credits?
Ranksphere uses two separate types of credits.

Using AI credits does not reduce your scan credit balance, and running ranking scans does not use AI credits.

Which actions use AI credits?
Different AI features use different amounts of credits.
Most AI writing actions use 10 credits, while content gap analysis and AI Insights use more.

A content gap analysis compares your website's content with a competitor's website to identify potential content gaps.
AI Insights provide written summaries of ranking results. This includes AI summaries added to saved reports and keyword scan exports.
For example, creating a Google Post with AI uses 10 credits. If you also use AI to rewrite that post, the rewrite uses another 10 credits.
What happens if an AI action fails?
You only use AI credits when Ranksphere successfully completes the action.
If Ranksphere cannot generate the content, no credits will be deducted.
This means you won't lose credits for an AI action that fails.

How many AI credits are included in each plan?
The number of AI credits you receive depends on your Ranksphere subscription.

Your included AI credits are refreshed every month, even if you pay for your subscription annually.
How much can I generate with my monthly credits?
Most writing actions use 10 AI credits.
For example, if you're on the Starter plan, your 1,000 monthly AI credits could cover approximately 100 writing actions, such as generating Google Posts or drafting review replies.
However, some features use more credits.
A content gap analysis uses 15 credits, while AI Insights use 100 credits each.
Your credits are shared across these features, so the number of actions you can complete depends on how you use them.

How to allocate AI credits to your locations
AI credits are shared across your workspace.
If you manage several business locations, you can decide how many AI credits each location is allowed to use.
Workspace Owners and Admins can manage these allocations.
For example, if one location regularly uses AI to create Google Posts and draft review replies, you can give it a larger allowance than a location that uses AI less often.
This helps prevent one location from using all the available AI credits in your workspace.
How to assign AI credits to a location
- Go to Settings.
- Open Credit Usage.
- Select AI Credits.
- Click Manage Allocation.
- Set the number of credits available to each location.
- Save your changes.
You can return to this page whenever you need to adjust a location's credit allocation.
What happens if a location runs out of AI credits?
If a location doesn't have enough allocated AI credits, Ranksphere will stop the AI action before it begins.
No credits will be deducted for an action that cannot be completed.
A Workspace Owner or Admin can review the allocation and adjust it if more credits are available.

How to buy additional AI credits
If you've used the AI credits included in your subscription, you can purchase more.
Additional AI credits are available on paid plans.
Only the Workspace Owner can purchase credits, since purchases are managed through Billing.
How much do extra AI credits cost?

For example, purchasing 5,000 additional AI credits would cost $25.
How to purchase AI credits
- Go to Settings → Billing → Add-ons.
- Find the available credit packs.
- Select Add AI credits.
- Choose how many credits you want to purchase.
Purchased credits are used only after you've used the AI credits included with your plan.

Do unused AI credits expire?
Yes, but the rules depend on your plan and whether the credits are included with your subscription or purchased separately.
Monthly AI credits included in your plan
Your plan includes a set number of AI credits each month.
These credits refresh monthly, even if you're on an annual subscription.

For example, if you're on Growth and have 1,000 unused monthly AI credits at the end of the period, 500 credits will carry over to the next period.
Additional AI credits purchased through Add-ons
Purchased AI credits follow a separate 30-day expiry period.
The 30 days begin on the date you purchase the credits, not on your regular subscription billing date.

On Growth and Agency, the rollover continues into later 30-day periods.
For example, if you have 1,000 unused credits from a purchased pack on Growth:
- After the first 30 days, 500 unused credits carry into the next period.
- If those 500 credits remain unused, 250 carry into the following period.
On Single Business and Starter, unused purchased AI credits expire after 30 days.
Note: Rollover only affects credits that haven't been used. Credits you've already spent are not affected.

Who can use and manage AI credits?
Your workspace role determines whether you can use AI features, change credit allocations, or purchase additional credits.

Owners and Admins
Workspace Owners and Admins can use AI writing tools, view credit usage, and manage AI credit allocations.
However, only the Workspace Owner can purchase additional credits.
Members
Members can use AI writing tools for the locations shared with them.
They cannot change credit allocations or purchase additional credits.
Guests
AI writing tools are not available to Guests by default.
Billing is also restricted to the Workspace Owner and cannot be enabled for Admins, Members, or Guests.

Why can't I use AI writing?
Your location may not have enough allocated AI credits, or the feature may be temporarily unavailable.
Check the location's allocation under Settings → Credit Usage → AI Credits.
If more credits are available in your workspace, an Owner or Admin can adjust the allocation.
Can I use AI credits across multiple locations?
Yes. AI credits are shared across your workspace.
Workspace Owners and Admins can decide how many credits each location can use through Settings → Credit Usage → AI Credits → Manage Allocation.
Can an Admin purchase additional AI credits?
No. Admins can view and manage credit allocations, but only the Workspace Owner can purchase additional credits through Billing.
Where can I check my remaining AI credits?
Go to Settings → Credit Usage → AI Credits.
You can review your available AI credits and manage location allocations if your role allows it.
