Google Business Profile Performance
This guide explains what the Google Business Profile performance view shows, where the numbers come from, and how to read them, export them, and schedule them.
What this shows
Once you connect a Google Business Profile, Ranksphere pulls in how that profile is doing on Google and shows it in one place. This is where you see what customers do after they find you: how many people viewed your profile, and how many of them called, asked for directions, or clicked through to your website.
The numbers come straight from Google. You don't enter anything or set anything up beyond connecting your profile once. After that, Ranksphere keeps the data current on its own.
You'll find it under a location's Performance tab, on the Google Business Profile sub-tab.
The numbers you'll see
Each of these has its own total and its own trend over the dates you pick:
| Profile views | How many times your profile showed up to people on Google |
| Searches | How many searches your profile appeared in |
| Calls | How many people tapped to call you from your profile |
| Directions | How many people asked for directions to you |
| Website clicks | How many people clicked through to your website |
| Bookings | How many bookings came through your profile, where your profile supports them |
A profile view is a good start, but a call or a set of directions is a customer taking action. Watching both together tells you whether the people finding you are actually reaching out.
How customers found you
Ranksphere also splits your views by where they came from:
- Google Search or Google Maps
- Mobile or desktop
This tells you whether people are finding you by searching on Google or by browsing the map, and which device they're on. It's a quick way to see where your visibility is coming from.
The words customers searched
You can also see the actual search terms people used before they landed on your profile. This is useful for two things: seeing the demand you're already picking up, and spotting searches you should be showing up for but aren't.
Picking a date range
Every number reacts to the dates you choose. Pick one of the preset ranges, or set your own start and end dates. Change the range and the totals, trends, and the "how customers found you" split all update together.
Ranksphere also keeps your history. Google removes older data from its own dashboard after a few months, so this is often the only place you can compare this month to the same month last year, or show a client how far they've come.
Exporting and scheduling
- Export a report now. Use Export PDF on the sub-tab to download the current view as a report you can send on.
- Schedule it. Use the schedule control (the gear icon) to have a Google Business Profile report generated on a repeat, emailed to you, and saved to the location's Reports tab. Each scheduled run uses one report credit. See Reports.
Who can do what
- Viewing performance is open to anyone with access to the location, including the client (Guest) users you've shared a location with.
- Connecting a Google Business Profile is for Owners and Admins (and Members with the matching permission).
- Scheduling reports needs permission to generate reports, which Owners, Admins, and Members with that permission have.
Common questions
Where does the data come from?
Straight from Google, through your connected Google Business Profile. Ranksphere pulls it and keeps it up to date. You don't enter any of it by hand.
I just connected my profile and I don't see any numbers. Why?
Google reports Business Profile performance on a two to three day delay, so a profile you connected today won't have numbers yet. Ranksphere pulls the data automatically, so check back in a couple of days and it will fill in.
Do I need to connect my profile?
Yes. Performance data comes from your own Google Business Profile, so you connect it once. Everything updates on its own after that.
How far back can I look?
Further than Google's own dashboard. Google drops older data after a few months, but Ranksphere keeps the history so you can compare periods over time.
Can I see what people searched to find me?
Yes. The search terms people used before reaching your profile are listed, so you can see what's bringing people in.
Does this work for more than one location?
Yes. Connect each profile you manage and you'll see performance for each one. This makes it useful for multi-location businesses and for agencies handling client profiles.
Will this change my profile?
No. This view only shows how your profile performs. Editing your description, hours, photos, and other details happens on the Google Business Profile tab.
